DGM Sound World I.
It's the Morning Shift. We have a listen-through.
14.57 Still going on Disc I. I find much of the vocal material from 1970 & 1971 to be unlistenable in 2004. In fairness, it has given me some difficulty since 1970 & 1971. The instrumental edits of the pieces are very different. Acknowledging bias, I note that David has done all the edits. This wasn't a process aimed at removing vocals, but one that began as a way of presenting one-minute hot tickles for possible licensing. David went for what struck him as being the core of the pieces. In some pieces, this was the vocal (Elephant Talk) but here the core is often the instrumental themes.
16.11 Disc II: Live 1969-72.
18.02 This is more a representative archive than a through-listening or performance-type experience.
Now, stuff into the car & off to Chez Horse, Chiswick.
22.35 In-car listening of the evening: Latin surf by the Twang Marvels. Superb. Very well played, humorous & enough the make the legs snap like whipcords.
Dinner with T & a walk. Practising for tomorrow & now to settle.
